How to connect to the UTSW wireless network

Step One: Get a UTSW ID

You need a UTSW username and password. Email Jason and ask for a UTSW ID. He will submit the paperwork and email it to you after 1-2 business days.

You can do password changes and resets on the iAIM webpage.

Step Two: Connect to the wireless network

Then you need to tell your laptop or phone to connect to the wireless network named "utwpa2" (NOT the one called utwpa without the 2).

Instructions for how to do this are here: Wireless Access using WPA2. This link works only from computers at UTSW and includes the specific instructions for connecting to the wireless network on Windows, Macs and iPhones.

If web pages won't load...

You need to tell your browser to automatically detect the proxy server. How you do this depends on what web browser you're using. The links below only work from computers at UT.

Firefox (Mac or Windows): Open the Options/Preference settings, go to Advanced, Network, Connection, and check "auto-detect proxy settings." You may have to close and re-open your browser.

Internet Explorer (Windows): Instructions are here.

Safari (Mac): Call the helpdesk at 8-7600 and tell them you have a Mac and want to talk to a Mac person and need to know how to connect to the proxy server.

iPhone: Instructions are here.

If you need additional help, call the helpdesk at 8-7600.

Alternative Solution: Connect to the guest network

If you don't have a UTSW ID, you can connect to the wireless network called "guest." You will be directed to a page asking you to login. Username is utguest. Call the helpdesk at 8-7600 and ask for the password. They will give you a generic password that changes every month.

You will be able surf the internet but won't have access to internal UT sites like the citi portal, library, etc.
