Forwarding email in Groupwise in 22 easy steps
Here's how to forward e-mail from Parkland Groupwise to another e-mail account (such as Hotmail). Enough people (i.e. faculty) will send you e-mail via Groupwise that you need to check it, yet it's a pain to log into multiple e-mail accounts. With this, you can consolidate your e-mail!
- Go to http://webmail.pmh.org and click the Parkland Webmail link to get to webmail.
- Enter your name and password and click on "Login"
- Click on the "Options" button at the middle of the top of the window. It's the one that has the picture of 2 little checkmarks, between the "Help" button (question mark and book) and the "Exit" button (door and arrow).
- Click on the tab titled "Rules."
- To create the first rule (forwarding): Click on the drop box next to "Type:" and choose "Forward"
- Click on "Create", and a new window titled "Create Rule - Forward" should appear
- In the "Rule name:" box, type any name you want (such as "Forward to Hotmail")
- Leave the boxes under the "Define Optional Condition" heading blank, since you want to forward every message
- In the "To:" box, type the e-mail address that you want your messages forwarded to
- In the "Subject:" box, type whatever you want added to the subject heading so you know that the message was forwarded (such as "Forward from Parkland")
- Click on "Save", which should trigger a warning (i.e. "You have not defined a rule condition. If a condition is not defined, this rule will apply to ALL new messages received. To continue, save this rule with or without a condition.")
- Ignore the warning and click on"Save" again to close the "Create Rule - Forward" window and return to the rules list.
- To create the second rule (deleting): Click on the drop box next to "Type:" and choose "Delete"
- Click on "Create", and a new window titled "Create Rule - Delete" should appear
- In the "Rule name:" box, type any name you want (such as "Delete after forwarded to Hotmail")
- Leave the boxes under the "Define Optional Condition" heading blank, since you want to delete every message after it's been forwarded
- Click on "Save", which should trigger the same warning as before (i.e. "You have not defined a rule condition. If a condition is not defined, this rule will apply to ALL new messages received. To continue, save this rule with or without a condition.")
- Ignore the warning and click on"Save" again to close the "Create Rule - Delete" window and return to the rules list
- Make sure that the boxes under "Activate" is checked for each rule you created
- Click on "Save" to save the rules
- Click on "Close" to close the "Options" window
- Click on the "Exit" button (door and arrow) to log out of GroupWise.
That's it!
Periodically you will need to login to groupwise and delete your sent items, or else your account will overflow. Because groupwise is stupid.
